Meet your Band Directors
Joe Meshach is a native of Blairstown, N.J. He is in his 6th year at Wade Hampton and 28th year teaching. Prior to coming to Hampton, Mr. Meshach taught at both Barnwell High School and Walterboro High School. He holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Newberry College. Mr. Meshach serves as the President of the SC Band Directors Association. Besides teaching at WHHS, he also serves as Music Director of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Walterboro. His wife, Cathy, also teaches in HSD1 and is the assistant band director of the Red Guardsmen. His daughter, Jennifer, is a senior at Wade Hampton and is the Drum Major in the band.
Cathy Meshach is a native of Lugoff, SC. She is in her 6th year teaching the Hampton District One bands and her 29th total year teaching. Before coming to Hampton District One, Mrs. Meshach was the Assistant Director at Colleton County High School for twenty-three years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Newberry College.
Bands under Mr. Meshach's direction, have received numerous excellent and superior ratings at the various SCBDA sponsored events. While in Walterboro the band won the AAAA State Marching Championship 8 times. Their bands have received the Outstanding Performance Award fifteen times since 1986.
Their professional affiliations include the National Band Association, Music Educators National Conference, South Carolina Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Masters Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the South Carolina Band Directors Association.
Mr. Meshach has received several personal awards. He was selected for Who's Who in Music while still a high school student in 1980, the same year that he was chosen to perform with the All-State Marching Band USA which traveled and performed throughout 7 countries in Europe. He was named to the 1999 and 2000 editions of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Mr. Meshach was also selected for inclusion in the 2003 and 2004 Who's Who in America, as well as the 2004 edition of Who's Who in the World.
Mrs. Meshach has also received personal awards. They include Outstanding Young Women in America, 2002 Teacher of the Year, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
When he is not teaching, Mr. Meshach enjoys watching baseball and NASCAR. Mrs. Meshach loves to cook and take long walks. They both are elders in the Presbyterian Church in Walterboro.
